Losing It by Cora Carmack

Title: Losing It

Author: Cora Carmack

Series: Losing It (Book 1)

Genre: Contemporary, Romance Young Adult and New Adult

Length: 288 pages

Publisher: Ebury

Date of Publication: 17th of January 2013

Synopsis

Love.Romance. Sex. There's a first time for everything...

As far as Bliss Edwards can tell, she's the last virgin standing, certainly amongst her friends. And she's determined to deal with the 'problem' as quickly and simply as possible.

But her plan for a no-strings one night stand turns out to be anything but simple. Especially when she arrives for her first class and recognises her hot new British professor.

She'd left him naked in her bed just 8 hours earlier...

Review

I will immediately confess that given the cover and the classification of New Adult I was expecting a lot of adult content. However I was very pleasantly surprised by this novel, and although I have also classified it as New Adult I do not actually feel like it necessarily qualifies as such which is why I have also put Young Adult.

Acting has never been so dangerously deceptive or important. The question is do you act and allow the show to go on and for life to carry on because invariably it must and holding up appearances and a show is what us humans do, or do you drop the mask, the farce and the act, be a poor actor and let the truth shine through for the sake of your own happiness?

Losing It was absolutely adorably sweet and tender, giving me that warm fuzzy feeling inside that every girl needs once in a while. This is a must comfort read with wine and chocolate after a rough day and for when you feel you have lost all hope in love. I truly truly truly (I actually can't say it enough but shan't bore you excessively) enjoyed it.

There were no pretentions for a deeper beyond meaning. No skeletons in anyone's closet. No dramatic and hideous past.
What you saw is what you got. Just two normal people with a pretty normal and rather hilarious problem that presented with several funny moments. Aside from being an absolutely great comfort read, I have to say it was also a very refreshing one considering that recently a lot of books seem to create characters with each a more shocking/hideous/horrifying background than the previous. And although I appreciate that this has its place and purpose, it was pleasant to read about two fairly regular individuals that hadn't previously committed/witnessed a crime, suffered some severe trauma or something along those lines. Just your average Joe and Jane Bloggs, who happen to meet, fall for each other and then funnily stumble around in the sweet and tender inadequacies of love whilst trying to figure out a solution to a slight inconvenience.

Short sweet and simple were the rules and I loved Cora Carmack for it.

A big thank you to the lovely people at Ebury for providing me with a copy of this ever so sweet romantic novel to review.

If you liked this and would like some more simple but sweet romance for comfort reading, then perhaps you might want to try To Catch A Pirate by Jade Parker, Easy by Tammara Webber, Breathe by Abbi Glines and maybe Jessie Hearts NYC by Keris Stainton.

Paige should have never agreed to do her best friend’s semester English project. Community service sucks. Especially when you have a major social life. But it’s that or possible expulsion from school. Reading to a boy in a coma is just plain creepy, but her English teacher somehow thinks her acting skills make it the perfect community service match.

But when she finds the boy’s journal hidden among his books, things turn from creepy to interesting. Very interesting. The boy who looked like death slowly comes alive as she reads his own words to him. And each day Paige is wishing more and more he would wake up.

I'm disfigured. Scarred. Ugly.
When I look in the mirror, I see a stranger. When I look over my shoulder, no one's there…
Yet I feel watched. Hunted. Afraid.
And then he tells me I’m beautiful.
He tells me I’m safe.
I believe him.
Until someone tries to kill me.
Secrets abound, danger is near, and still… my heart desires a boy with whiskey-colored eyes and far too many secrets.
Secrets that could cost me my life.
To stay alive I have to look deep, beneath the masks everyone wears, to find the truth.
To find myself.

With aspirations of being an animator, sixteen-year-old Nivi Nash thought she knew all about fairy tales. Take one beautiful damsel in distress, add a charming hero, and don’t forget a cackling villain. Throw in some pretty colors, a few songs, and mix well.

But when caught in a real one, she learns the hero—though still hot—isn’t always charming, the story far from pretty, and the villain absolute evil. On the run for her life in a stolen SUV, she isn’t worried about her beauty, but happily ever after? Yes, she wants that the most. It means she’ll live.

The kiss always at the end of these tales? Most of the time, okay maybe half of the time, the thought of that lip lock is far, far away where these stories are supposed to be. But tied to a stake on the side of a snowy mountain, the thought of her not-so-charming hero’s kiss burns away the reality of the knife hovering above her skin.

She knows he couldn’t possibly feel the same way about her. But when everything around you is one big act, it’s hard not to get caught up in the story..."

Short but by the sounds of the synopsis sweet and funny I just couldn't resist adding Unlucky Break to my kindle and suggesting it to you guys!

"When Sky catches a glimpse of Zed for the first time, lounging against his motorbike at school, she is drawn to him just like every other girl in Wickenridge. But Zed sees something special in her that the other girls don’t have. Zed tells her they are both Savants – people with special powers like telepathy and the ability to see into the future. Not only that, she is a Savant too, and his soulfinder – meant to be together.

When a soulfinder speaks telepathically to her partner, it’s like all the lights coming on in a building. You lit me up like Vegas. But for Sky it’s just not that easy – she’s a mystery to herself, haunted by nightmares from her past before she was adopted, and riddled with doubt and insecurity. Just when Sky is slowly coming round to the idea of being with Zed she is kidnapped by a family of criminal Savants. In a chilling twist, Sky and Zed’s relationship is put to the ultimate test and the fate of those she loves lie in Sky’s hands. Will Sky have the strength to embrace her power and be brave enough to control her own destiny, or will the dark demons of her past prevent her from realising her true potential?"

I just had to point this book out to you all because it has got to be one of my all time favourites!!! Check out my review and see if the story doesn't grip you too :)

"In a near future, society is segregated according to whether people are genetically disposed to mental illness. 17-year-old Ana has been living the privileged life of a Pure due to an error in her DNA test. If she is joined to Jasper before her 18th birthday, she may stay in the Community until her illness manifests. But if Jasper changes his mind, she will be cast out among the Crazies. As Ana’s joining ceremony and her birthday loom closer, she dares to hope she will be saved from the horror of the City and live a ‘normal’ life. But then Jasper disappears.

Led to believe Jasper has been taken by a strange sect the authorities will not intefere with, Ana sneaks out of her well-guarded Community to find him herself. Her search takes her through the underbelly of society, and as she delves deeper into the mystery of Jasper’s abduction she uncovers some devastating truths that destroy everything she has grown up to believe"

I ashamedly admit that this book has successfully lodged itself in my TBR pile a while back and that unfortunately I have not quite worked through the pile to it. But when I saw it on kindle I was reminded of it and am pushing it up the pile now because it just sounds so good!
